Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Our church renovation project began on Tuesday, September 3, just a little over two weeks ago. Since then, steady progress has been made, and the crew has been working incredibly hard in the first phase, which consists primarily of asbestos abatement and the demolition of the remaining ceiling.
Scaffolding Everywhere
A scaffolding system was set up throughout the entire church to give workers a raised platform to provide easy access to the ceiling. Rather than using lifts that would have to be constantly repositioned and limit the area they could work on at any given time, the scaffolding system allows direct access to the entire ceiling at any time. The crew took advantage of this as you'll see below.
Abatement Completed
With the scaffolding in place, workers were able to quickly complete the asbestos abatement. This photo shows the ceiling after the black asbestos-containing layer has been removed. This layer, visible in the photo, is the middle of three different layers that formed the original ceiling system.
Ceiling Removed
This photo shows the ceiling entirely removed. The photo looks down from the catwalk system above the original ceiling and down into the church, where you can see the covered scaffolding below. As you can tell, the crew has made significant progress. All that remains of the original ceiling is the metal structure used to support it.
When the new ceiling system is in place, we can install new insulation to help lower our energy costs. (The original church ceiling was never insulated.)
With Great Progress Comes Great Mess
Here, you can see the debris from removing the original 1964 ceiling.
The Scaffolding Remains
The scaffolding system will remain in place for months to come since it will be needed for the installation of the new ceiling, lighting, wiring, air handling, etc.
We will continue to provide updates and photos as the work progresses.
Keep Praying!
Please keep our renovation project and the crew of workers and artists in your prayers!
St. Joseph, patron of craftsmen,
through your intercession,
may the Holy Spirit guide all who work to renovate our church.
May God provide them the grace to safely transform our sanctuary into a lasting, beautiful, and holy place of worship.
May they experience the presence of Jesus working alongside them,
as surely as you did in Nazareth.
St. Joseph,
patron of families and workers,
be with us as we undertake this journey together.
Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
God bless you all!
